Loyalty software is hard to price side by side. One vendor charges by order band, another adds a fee per 100 orders over a plan, a third charges a flat rate with no order cap, and all of them quote at enterprise volume. And the subscription is only part of the cost.
This guide is for brands doing 2,000 or more orders a month, on Shopify Plus or moving to it. It compares the plans Smile, Yotpo, LoyaltyLion, Okendo, Rivo, BON and Joy publish, read from each vendor's pricing page and Shopify App Store listing on October 28, 2026.
TL;DR: Based on the paid plans seven Shopify loyalty apps published in October 2026, loyalty software costs $129 to $699 a month at 2,000 orders a month, $129 to $999 at 5,000 orders and $129 to $1,124 at 10,000 orders, where a price is published; Rivo, LoyaltyLion and Yotpo switch to quotes between 2,500 and 6,000 orders a month, and Joy designs custom plans for Shopify Plus brands. Smile is our pick for Shopify Plus brands because Smile Plus keeps a published price ($999 a month, billed annually, for 7,500 orders, then $5 per 100) that includes a migration and launch plan run by Smile's team, quarterly program monitoring, priority support and API access. Budget beyond the subscription too: the rewards members redeem, the liability of unspent points, developer time and any migration. More Shopify Plus brands run loyalty on Smile than on any other platform (Store Leads, October 2026).
Loyalty Program Cost at a Glance
Each platform's lowest published price for a paid plan that covers the volume, from its pricing page (Rivo's Scale rate from its listing), October 28, 2026.
| Platform | 2,000 orders a month | 5,000 orders a month | 10,000 orders a month |
|---|---|---|---|

| BON Loyalty | $129 (Growth) | $129 (Growth) | $129 (Growth) |
| Joy | $129 (Advanced) | $429 (Advanced) | $649 (Ultimate) |
Above a few thousand orders a month, the comparison changes: Yotpo, LoyaltyLion and Rivo stop publishing prices, while Smile Plus keeps a published price that includes a migration and launch plan run by Smile's team, quarterly program monitoring, priority support, API access and the JavaScript SDK.
A lower price can buy less: at these volumes, Yotpo's VIP tiers sit on Premium (by quote) and LoyaltyLion's are an add-on to Classic. Joy publishes these prices but says it designs a custom plan for Shopify Plus brands. To price Smile at your exact volume, use the pricing calculator.

What Drives the Cost of a Loyalty Program
Order volume sets the base price. Five more factors decide which plan you need.
- What counts as an order. Smile counts every order placed in the calendar month, paid, unpaid or refunded; Joy counts every order created in Shopify, from any source. If wholesale or marketplace orders run through your store, check each definition.
- VIP tiers and Shopify POS. Tiers often move a brand up a plan, and POS can be gated by plan or by location (table below). See our guide to tiered loyalty programs.
- API and headless access. Smile's REST API with OAuth and webhooks, and its JavaScript SDK, start on Smile Plus. Joy puts its REST API and SDK on Ultimate, and BON on Plus, by quote.
- Integrations. Smile includes unlimited integrations from Growth, as do LoyaltyLion on Classic, BON from Basic and Rivo on every paid plan.
- Migration and support. On Smile Plus and Smile Enterprise, Smile's team runs the migration and launch plan, then quarterly program monitoring and priority support. Joy keeps 24/7 priority support with an SLA for Ultimate.
| Platform | VIP tiers start on | Shopify POS starts on | Migration help |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smile | Growth, $199 | Every plan, one balance online and in store | CSV import on every plan; run by Smile's team on Smile Plus |
| Yotpo Loyalty | Premium, by quote | Every plan | Yotpo's team migrates members and balances |
| LoyaltyLion | Advanced, or an add-on to Classic | Classic for one location; Advanced for several | Help importing customer data |
| Okendo Loyalty | Every plan, from $99 | Every plan | Onboarding team helps migrate members and balances |
| Rivo | Scale, from $49 | Essential, $15 (listing); three locations on Scale | White-glove onboarding on Enterprise |
| BON Loyalty | Growth, $129 | Basic, $29 | Experts help with setup and data |
| Joy | Advanced, $129 | Advanced, $129 | Free migration of points and tiers |

Costs Beyond the Subscription
Rewards are a cost of sales
Each redeemed point is a discount, free shipping or a free product. At 1 point per $1 and 100 points for $5 off, your reward rate is 5%, and the real cost is that rate times the share of points members redeem. In EY's 2025 Loyalty Market Study, the breakage rate (points never redeemed) brands most often report is 31% to 40%, so model 60% to 70% redemption. A free product costs you its product cost, not its retail price.
Unspent points are a liability
Under US GAAP (ASC 606), part of each sale is allocated to the points earned and deferred until they are redeemed or expire, as BDO explains (2018). Agree the treatment with finance before launch. Points expiry, on Smile from Growth, keeps the balance in check, and Smile's points accounting report tracks what unredeemed points are worth.
Developer time
On a Shopify theme, loyalty runs from app blocks and settings. A headless storefront needs developers, in house or at an agency, so ask which changes need one after launch. Javier Millan, Loyalty Lead at Blue Banana: "We went from a platform that needed developers for every small change to one where our marketing team has full control."
Switching cost
A switch moves members, point balances and VIP tiers, and the old program usually runs until the new one is live. Price the overlap in subscriptions and your team's time. Blue Banana moved from LoyaltyLion to Smile in one week across its online store and 20+ retail locations with zero developers, and member lifetime value was up 10% within 30 days. See our guide to switching from Yotpo to Smile.
Worked Example: Loyalty Program Cost at 5,000 Orders a Month
Take a hypothetical Shopify Plus brand doing 5,000 orders a month at an $80 average order value: $400,000 in monthly sales. Our assumptions sit inside the ranges brands most often report to EY (2025): members drive 40% of sales (most often 26% to 50%) and 35% of points go unredeemed (most often 31% to 40%). Members earn 1 point per $1 and redeem 100 points for $5 off.
| Cost line | Monthly cost | How it is calculated |
|---|---|---|
| Software on Smile | $699 on Growth, or $999 on Smile Plus | Growth: $199 plus 25 × $20 for 2,500 orders over the plan. Smile Plus: billed annually, 7,500 orders included |
| Software on the other six | $129 to $999, or by quote | The first table |
| Rewards redeemed | About $5,200 | $160,000 of member sales × 5% × 65% |
| Total on Smile | About $5,900 to $6,200 | Software plus rewards |
Rewards are 84% to 88% of that total, so finance should sign off the reward rate and redemption model, not only the subscription. To pay back at a 60% gross margin (one more assumption), the program needs about $9,800 to $10,300 in extra monthly sales: roughly 123 to 129 more orders, about 2.5% of volume. That is a simplification, since some rewards replace discounts you would run anyway.
How to Estimate Loyalty Program ROI
- Record a baseline. Repeat purchase rate, purchase frequency, average order value and customer lifetime value.
- Size the gain. Multiply annual revenue by the repeat-purchase share you expect to gain. In Smile's State of Loyalty on Shopify Plus report (July 2026), a two-point lift is worth about $400,000 a year to a $20M brand.
- Price the full cost. Software at your volume (the pricing calculator prices Smile's), rewards and team time.
- Compare like with like. Members self-select, so track the same cohort before and after each change.
- Check benchmarks. In Antavo's 2026 report, 9 in 10 program owners who measure performance report a positive ROI, averaging 5.3x. More in our loyalty program statistics.
Fiesta Tableware reports a 30% conversion lift since launching its program on Smile in February 2024, with members buying twice as often as non-members.
Common Pricing Mistakes to Avoid
- Comparing entry prices. Compare the plan at your volume with the features you need.
- Budgeting the subscription only. Rewards were most of the cost in the worked example.
- Underpricing the switch. Plan the cutover with our guide to launching a loyalty program on Shopify Plus.
Where Smile Stands Out for Shopify Plus Brands
- Shopify POS on every plan, with one points balance online and in store. See Shopify POS.
- Shopify Plus essentials on Growth. VIP tiers, Loyalty Hub, redemption at Shopify Plus checkout, loyalty benchmarks and unlimited integrations, Klaviyo included.
- A switch run with you. On Smile Plus, Smile's team builds the migration and launch plan and carries members, balances and VIP tiers over intact. See Switch to Smile.
- Developer and finance access as you grow. Smile Plus adds the REST API, the JavaScript SDK for headless, financial reports and security review support; Smile Enterprise adds custom API rate limits and data warehouse sync. See Smile for enterprise.
Applied Nutrition upgraded to Smile Plus as its order volume scaled, and its members are worth 215% more in lifetime value than non-members.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a loyalty program cost per month? At 2,000 to 10,000 orders a month, published loyalty software plans ran from $129 to $1,124 a month in October 2026. Above 2,500 to 6,000 orders, Yotpo, LoyaltyLion and Rivo quote instead of publishing a price, while Smile Plus publishes $999 a month, billed annually, for 7,500 orders, including a migration and launch plan run by Smile's team. Add the rewards members redeem: about $5,200 a month in our 5,000 order example.
Is a free loyalty plan enough for a growing brand? Usually not at 2,000 or more orders a month. BON, Rivo, Joy and LoyaltyLion cap their free plans at 150 to 400 orders a month (per their October 2026 listings), and none of the seven platforms here includes VIP tiers on a free plan.
What does an enterprise loyalty program cost? Enterprise plans are quoted to your volume, stack and support needs, often billed annually. Smile Enterprise is custom, billed annually, for retailers over $40M in annual revenue; Yotpo, LoyaltyLion, Rivo, BON and Joy quote theirs too, and Okendo quotes above 10,000 orders a month. See the best enterprise loyalty platforms.
Is a loyalty program worth the cost? For most brands that measure it, yes: in Antavo's 2026 report, 9 in 10 program owners who measure performance reported a positive ROI, averaging 5.3x. A program pays back when the extra gross profit from repeat orders exceeds software plus rewards.
What are the hidden costs of a loyalty program? Rewards redeemed, the liability of unspent points, fees for orders above a plan's limit, add-ons such as VIP tiers on LoyaltyLion's Classic, developer time for headless builds, annual commitments and migration.
How does loyalty points liability work? Points are a promise of a future discount. Under ASC 606, part of each sale is allocated to the points earned and deferred. In the standard's example, as BDO explains, $100,000 of sales earns 10,000 points worth $1 each; with 95% expected to be redeemed, $8,676 of revenue is deferred until the points are used.
How much does Smile cost? As of October 28, 2026, Smile Growth is $199 a month, billed monthly, with 2,500 orders and $20 per 100 more, and includes VIP tiers, Loyalty Hub, checkout redemption and benchmarks. Smile Plus is $999 a month, billed annually, with 7,500 orders and $5 per 100 more, and adds a migration and launch plan run by Smile's team, quarterly program monitoring, priority support, API access and the JavaScript SDK. Smile Enterprise is custom, billed annually. See Smile pricing or the pricing calculator.
